Information for students
On this page you find more information to take on a challenge as a student. If you have questions, you can always contact us.
Can I pick any challenge or assignment?
The challenges and assignments that are listed on this website always need to be worked on under supervision of a professor or an assistant. They can be used in courses and theses, but you cannot work on a challenge without any supervision.
If your professor referred you to this website with the task to pick an interesting topic yourself, you can contact us to let us know that you would love to work on the challenge or assignment, but put your professor in cc.
I’m being asked to sign an agreement: why?
For most of the students it will be the first time they need to sign an agreement for coursework. Since we are dealing with a collaboration between an organization, teaching staff and students with the goal to find a solution for a problem, it is important that good agreements about how the results can be used are made upfront.
In the past it was sometimes unclear what exactly was agreed upon. Even when students are working together on a project, there have been cases of discussions when some of them wanted to continue the project. By putting these agreements on paper it is clear and transparent for all involved parties: the students, the professors and the organization.
What if the organization does not answer my email?
We expect from an organization that they answer your email within 2 to 3 business days. If this is not the case you can remind them or call them. You might find the phone number online, in the signature of their emails or you can ask us.
In most cases we have the contact details of a second person. You can ask us for those as well in case you don’t have them yet.
What if I want to continue with the idea when the project is finished?
If no agreement has been signed with the organization, you as a student keep the rights on the work you did. With your results you can continue independently and on non-exclusive basis. In many cases you need the results of all involved students to continue the work on the concept. In that case the other students need to transfer their rights to you.
If you signed an agreement it will tell you what is possible and what not.
