Tackling Digital Barriers

Galway City Council is in the process of adopting a Digital Strategy for the City. This strategy has been created in consultation with a variety of stakeholders in the city including the Insight Centre in NUlG. The challenge that needs to be addressed is to develop a methodology whereby the partners within the Digital Strategy can assess their digitization activities to identify the potential for digital exclusion that might occur and identify corresponding measures that they can implement in tandem with the activity to reduce the risk of digital exclusion.

Get Galway Moving Smarter

Transportation policy is a very important strand to our work at Galway Chamber. Galway has prolific transport problems which are linked to the geography of the city, its historical element and lack of attractive options other than the car. But economically the problem of congestion is very costly for our city and our members therefore it is critical that the chamber works to support local stakeholders in whatever way we can to significantly improve the sustainability and efficiency of the transport network in #OurGalway.

Galway – GDPR as a competetive advantage

Drawing on the existing capacity in AI, big data and analytics, associated with SFI research centres, there is a clear opportunity to develop a virtual ‘Living Lab’ within the region. As part of a European network, this will enable iterative testing of new ideas across the region, offering a single point of contact to coordinate data research at scale in a living lab. A key enabler at a global level for a living lab as a data testbed is the protections offered by GDPR as the main English speaking country within the EU.

Creating a Social Innovation Education Hub

Radical innovation in technology and the economy can enable social transformation. To tackle the big challenges society faces, we need to embed social innovation in business models. We need to think differently about social business and shift the mindset of investors and consumers to move away from the 3rd sector towards a more sustainable business model, which is “Social Enterprise”.

Hoe kunnen we eerlijkheid en transparantie creëren in de markt van kenniswerkers (product ontwikkelaars, designers, CTO’s, innovatie facilitatoren, …)?

Net zoals dat koffieboeren in derde wereld landen uitgebuit worden en oneerlijk worden behandeld zien we dit ook bij kenniswerkers. Vaak uit onwetenheid. Daardoor belanden ze vaak in stressvolle situaties, kans op burn-out en verliezen ze hun creativiteit en motivatie die als kenniswerker van cruciaal belang is. Hier willen we verandering in brengen.

Start For Future werkt samen met verschillende projectgebaseerde vakken over heel de universiteit, en wil multidisciplinaire studentengroepen uitdagen om ondernemend aan de slag te gaan met uitdagingen in de gezondheidszorg waar ze ook een eigen start-up rond kunnen opstarten.

Hoe kunnen we circulaire producten hufter-proof scan-baar maken?

Binnen de circulaire economie worden producten door verschillende gebruikers geleend. Om in kaart te brengen waar producten zich bevinden in de waardeketen, moeten zij scan-baar zijn met een GSM zodat informatie over het product aangepast kan worden in IT systemen. Wij zoeken hiervoor een betere oplossing.
